Excursions
Each
space, area or region has particular places or special natural beauty
or attractions that are worth visiting and traveling to. Whether they
are awe inspiring and remit us to God's greatness, whether they have
a unique view, sound or fragrance, or abound in animal life, these places
help us to wonder at creation and to our own mystery. Sometimes even
the act of traveling, of going towards somewhere is an occasion of finding
something greater than ourselves.
Peru:
Ticlio
The
highest railway pass in the world, at over 4800 meters high, Ticlio
is an incredible sight. Only 3 hours away from coastal Lima, the drive
is an incredible ascent into the Andes through the Carretera Central
that follows through into the Peruvian Amazon.
Usually a daytrip, it must begin early in the morning, to avoid traffic through the Andean highway. Stop at popular mountain town Chosica for a juice as well as rural Matucana for mate coca tea. Take pictures of San Juan de Surco church as well as the scenic drops and gulleys along the way.
An optional stop is to take a 2 hour detour and hike to the scenic
Matucana waterfalls on the way up. Be sure to take swimming gear, sunscreen
and a lot of insect repellent!!
Brasil:
Ribeirão Pires
On
Wednesday 25th January, day of the São Paulo city holiday, there
will be a hike to the Serra do Mar near Ribeirão Pires. The trip
will be lead by experienced trekking guide Stefano Rosso, recently hired
Creatio staff.
Please contact the Creatio center in São Paulo or email Brian Shannon at bshannon@vidacrista.com for more information.
